Flow Hub
Sundays 2PM to 5PM Youth 13 to 18 attending High School, 5PM to 8PM Youth 18 to 24 graduated from High School
Flow Hub is our weekly drop in session that happens on Sundays. Youth have an opportunity to engage in project-based learning while developing transferable skills. This includes producing music, song writing, artist development, stage performance and recording. Some of our youth are developing other arts based projects like developing a clothing brand, collaging, photography and 3D rendering. We have state of the art recording studios, MPC’s, Adobe, all the DAWS, a vinyl sampling station, art supplies and laptops. It’s all here and it’s all FREE. If we don’t have a staff member in the space with a specific skill that a youth is interested in, we will reach out to our partners and other organizations to explore opportunities. This is a youth-led space, meaning we are here to collaborate on cultivating their genius and exploring how they would like to express themselves. If you’re interested in joining us for a session please fill out our Ascending Flow Interest Form and show up on any Sunday.
Flowz Up Arts & Advocacy Cohort
Flowz Up is for youth in our program who are interested in developing transferable skills that support self-identified goals. SMART goals are developed as a way to explore self-expression and advocacy. They collaborate with an advocate on a Project that aligns with their goals while developing the skills necessary to bring the project to life. Youth are encouraged to explore how their identity plays a role in self-expression and how their lived experience provides perspectives that inform how they can advocate for themselves and their community. We have Community Confluences weekly where we take youth out to cultural and arts-based events in the community. Youth receive a stipend for participating and writing reflections about how these events align with their goals.
Youth enrolled in FLowz Up will meet the first Saturday of every month as well as attending 2 Flow Hubs a month and two one-on-one sessions with their advocate. We ask that families consider if this time commitment will work for them before signing up. Please feel free to reach out to Elias, our Program Manager, with any questions elias@ascendingflow.org 503-572-4003.
M.A.D. Jazz
Saturdays 2pm to 5pm Youth 14 to 20
In this program, we will be exploring the vibrant intersection of jazz and hip-hop, rooted in Ascending Flow's mission to empower youth through goal-oriented music and self-expression. A major focus of our sessions will be learning how to communicate effectively with one another through our instruments and open dialogue.
This reflects our core commitment to providing a safe environment, fostering trusted connections, and working with mentors who share lived experiences.
We place a heavy emphasis on band dynamics, listening skills, and building strong collaborative relationships that translate into transferable life skills. Guided by the healing power of creative expression, we will be learning 5-6 songs a term. This program is tailored for beginner to intermediate skill levels, catering to youth 14-20 years old, and supports Ascending Flow's vision of helping young people build individualized paths to wellness and independence.
